Professor,

I know that we're running out of time for our letters but I'm not sure I'll be able to finish mine. You see, I was all set to send it to Professor Lestrange when - well. I reckon you know all about that.

The thing is, I guess I could still send it, but he wouldn't be able to read it, would he? I mean, not before he's all right.

Could I send it to you? It's about teaching. I've been trying to think about what I'd like to do, and I think teaching may be the best option I've got. I know my mum and my dad - well, my step-father, really, but I don't like thinking of him as my step-father as he's the only father I've ever known - they want me to go into his apothecary shop, but I just don't fancy it. And I'm not good enough at Quidditch and I've not taken Dark Arts so I don't think I could work for MLE, but my marks in most of my other subjects are okay. And I like the way most of the teachers take care of us here at Hogwarts. I mean, you look after us without treating us like babies, which is good.

I don't know if there's anything in the summer programme that helps prepare teachers. I mostly don't want to get left out though, because it sounds pretty ace. I'm just not sure what to do about the letter. I guess if this counts, then maybe it's okay if I just write to you. If not... well, maybe I could have a little longer to re-write what I was going to send to Professor Lestrange?

Mr Corner,

While I understand the difficulty you've found yourself, I'm sure you also appreciate that it would not be appropriate for me to give you an advantage (such as an extension) over your classmates. Even if I wished to, however, I fear the schedule of decisions would not allow for it.

If you would like to supplement this letter in any way, and can do so before the deadline, I will certainly take it into consideration but I do need to submit my own recommendations promptly.

That said, regardless of how you fare with the current application process, I would be glad to speak with you further about the process of becoming a teacher here (or I'm sure other faculty would, as well.)

While you are correct that the CCF will not necessarily focus directly on relevant skills for teaching, it is intended to help create an environment where leadership, organisation, and logistical skills can grow, all of which are quite important to successful teaching. And, frankly, I rather I'd taken more opportunities to polish my dueling, defense, and offensive spells during my own time at Hogwarts, and kept them up better since. You can never be too well prepared!
